Silkfred Dress Wishlist

Normally Facebook adverts really annoy me, however after the Silkfred one popped up a few times on my feed I decided to check it out. The site features many different boutiques which is great as so much variety and different styles of clothing are on offer. I really am addicted already and its been a few days! When browsing I always have my 21st birthday in my mind so I have put together a wishlist of dresses that I would happily wear to my party. It is just going to be a BBQ and drinks in the back garden but nevertheless, dressing up is still a must!

Slouchy Tee and Peep Toe Boots

Top - Primark
Jeans - New Look
Shoes - Garage Shoes
Necklaces - Matalan
Sunglasses - eBay

For about a year now I have longed to own peep toed boots and finally, I found a great pair on the Garage Shoes site for around £13. With this great price, I was not expecting great quality however was incredibly impressed.

I decided to team them with a super simple outfit that I have been gravitating towards recently - a plain tee and jeans. I have definitely come to the conclusion that my wardrobe should be filled with a lot more staples rather than on trend pieces that I may only wear once (which is the case far too often).

My necklace set was actually bought last year on a whim as I noticed them in the Matalan sale section just before my holiday to Malaga. At the time I thought they would be perfect to wear on holiday however, it was so hot that jewellery did not even cross my mind!

FOTD - Pop of Colour

Recently I have been seeing a lot of people posting makeup looks featuring a pop of colour on the lower lash line. To me, this is so beautiful and different from the typical neutral shades that I go for. In addition to this, adding colour to your makeup look is perfect for spring! I just wish that my collection contained a brighter shadow but hey, you gotta use the tools you have got. Here are the products that I used:

Eyes:

Shadow - Naked 3 (Buzz and Trick on lid, Limit and Nooner in crease, Factory on outer v), Kiko infinity (shade 233 along bottom lash line)
Mascara - Clinique high impact
Liner - Soap and Glory supercat

Face:

Foundation - Rimmel match perfection
Powder - Rimmel clear complexion
Bronzer - eBay
Highlight - Makeup Revolution highlighter in Pink Lights

Lips:

Liner - NYX slim lip pencil in shade Mauve
Lipstick - Mac's Please me

Feeling Lonely When You Are Not Alone

This may sound a bit silly but recently I have been feeling so lonely and down even when I am surrounded by people. I constantly have my boyfriend around for support and go to uni therefore there is definitely no need to feel this way. Yet on far too many days I just feel upset for absolutely no reason and feel that I have no one to talk to about it or nobody actually wants to talk to me. These feelings make me analyse my friendships too and have me questioning if they actually want to be my friend, its so stupid I know. Sometimes I think that I just need to share my thoughts more with the people I love however it already seems like they think I am a negative Nancy already. I must just expect too much from people, I always feel that those close to me should show interest in whats going on in my life.. maybe that is just not normal. Anyway pushing all the emotional stuff aside (although it feels good to write it all down), here are some methods that I use to cope when I am feeling this way:

Take a trip home

I find that feeling 'home sick' is always an excuse I use when I am feeling down as it cannot be pin pointed on anything else. There is nothing better than a trip home and seeing my lovely family. The only hard part is coming back to Aberdeen and resuming normal life.

Have a Netflix marathon

The answer to every problem. Need I explain more?

Watch cute animal videos on Youtube

How can videos of cute little animals acting funny or making mistakes not cheer you up? My favourite has to be ones that include pugs, especially Doug the pug.

Go for a walk

Go and discover a new route that you have never walked before. Walking somewhere different always cheers me up as it takes me out of my repetitive routine. My boyfriend and I did this and ended up at a lovely park the other day, cannot wait to go on more walks especially in the summer.

Text some friends

Even if it is just to ask how they are doing or to arrange a time to meet up. My closest friends attend uni in other cities therefore we do not get to see each other often so texting them is the ultimate pick me up.

Treat Yourself

Whether some food that you have been craving that is not particularly good for you or some new clothes that you have had an eye on for a while. Be careful though, every time I feel down I automatically go online and try shop but then remember my bank balance...

Have a good cry

If all else fails then just have a good cry. There is nothing wrong with it and it really does help sometimes.

Pinafore and Stripes

Top - New Look
Pinafore - Daisy Street
Shoes - eBay

I know what you are thinking - a polo neck in spring, really? Well here in Aberdeen it is still so chilly therefore one is definitely needed however, I could get away without wearing a jacket in this outfit which is always good. This pinafore dress was purchased from Daisy Street when the site was having a stock clear out and only ended up costing me around £3. It has sat in my wardrobe for months now and had not seen the light of day until I decided to try it with my New Look stripped top which I ended up loving. Normally this style does not suit me due to my boobs however the fabric of this dress seems to be a little more forgiving, Finally on to the shoes, these were bought from eBay a few years ago and are still going strong. I just love the chunky design and they are extremely comfortable,

Colder Spring Outfit Ideas

Spring time.. I think of pretty dresses and sandals however that is just not the case here in Aberdeen. Yeah the weather has warmed up slightly but most days a coat and tights are still needed, I actually still wear my winter wardrobe! This definitely signifies that my spring wardrobe needs updated asap. In my mind, the best way to do this is by purchasing pieces that could be used in both chilly and warmer weather such as dresses and combining them with jackets and tights for the colder days. Here is some outfit ideas that I would love to rock this spring:

Things I Have Learned Since Moving Out

I moved out of my mums house in 2013 to attend university an hour and a half away and let me tell you, living without parents is really not what it is cracked up to be. Responsibilities that I was not prepared for came flying at me. In first year I lived with my boyfriend in student accommodation, second year with a friend from uni and now, in my third year, I live with my boyfriend again and another couple. So I definitely have had a variety of different experiences.. here is what I have learned:

- Bills, bills everywhere

They are a massive pain aren't they? Just when you think that everything is covered, another pending payment pops up. The sad thing is there is no avoiding them.. no matter how hard you try.

- Washing

The piles do not just jump into the washing machine, dry and then turn up back into your wardrobe themselves which is extremely sad. Furthermore, just as you empty the basket it fills up straight away again. Thanks mum is all I have to say.

- Different levels of cleanliness

Not everyone is OCD with cleaning as much as me, this is definitely the biggest thing that I have learned. I definitely think that it is something that I inherited from my mum. Also, I have realized that not everyone sees 'mess' (something which my mum keeps reminding me of). That gratings of cheese on the counter tops may stand out to me and play on my mind but others may not even see the microscopic crumbs.

- Homeware wishlists never end

There is constantly newer and better homeware being offered yet I can never buy any due to my tiny budget. I could literally hunt in stores like Dunelm, The Range and B&M for hours on end. I am definitely going to become a hoarder.

- Problems with the flat are my problems

When I lived at home, I did not have to deal with problems such as damp or even little things like a light bulb going. However, now that I do not have my mum to take care of these things I actually have to pretend that I know what I am doing.

Belted Culottes

These culottes have been sat in my wardrobe for a couple of months now however, they have never been worn as in my mind they did not emphasis my waist enough (and I definitely need a little help with that). This was until I was asked to style this lovely Gant* belt. The pop of red really finalises the outfit and adds that little something extra therefore making me finally fall in love with the culottes. A belt like this could literally spice up any outfit, from a daytime plain tee and jeans to a fancy little black dress, giving it the potential to be a staple in any girls wardrobe. Gant offer many other belts that portray a classic design in different colours such as black, navy and brown therefore you really cannot go wrong investing in one of the company's belts as they are so easy to style. As the belt is of such high quality, I can definitely see me wearing this lovely red shade with so many other outfits in the future. I am also thinking of investing in a black one!

Bodysuit - Boohoo
Culottes - Boohoo
Belt - Gant*
Bag - New Look
Shoes - Asos

I also added my v neck bodysuit in order to make the culottes look more like a jump suit as they are my absolute love right now. Due to the soft and stretchy material of both the top and bottoms, this outfit is beyond comfy while still being shapely due to the belt. Now these shoes, they may look pretty but they are so hard to walk in! Maybe this is just because I am used to a chunky heel.. but we all suffer for fashion don't we? I just feel so grown up and classy in them, just now to practice, practice, practice.

L'Oreal Infallible 24H Foundation

Being the creature of habit that I am, Revlon Colourstay was my foundation of choice for years. In addition to this, it was/is so hard to find another brand that provides a pale enough shade for me. Most shades labeled 'ivory' on offer come up unpleasantly orange on my face which is rather annoying. Come on, a little help for the pale girls please.

As I have fallen a little out of love with my Revlon foundation, I was desperately hunting through Boots and found the L'Oreal Infallible 24H foundation in the shade Porcelain. I absolutely love when brands offer this colour option and wish more would do it. My expectations were high due to so many great reviews online, here are my final thoughts:

Pros:
- Offers full coverage without looking cakey
- Blends easily and does last a long time (I cannot confirm it lasts a whole 24 hours though)
- Does not oxidize and matches my pale skin perfectly
- Not drying therefore works on my extremely dry skin

Cons:
- I have to constantly powder my face throughout the day as my t-zone gets really oily (something which I have not experienced before)
- Did not apply as smooth when I put on primer first

So overall, I really do love the smooth finish of this foundation and the colour is perfect for me. It works really well on my dry skin, except the fact that it goes extremely oil on my t-zone which is weird for me however this can be fixed easily with powder. Due to this, I feel that someone with oily skin really would not benefit from this formula. It would be a purchase again however I am on the lookout for an even better foundation pale enough for me!

Homeware Perfect for Spring

12345678910

Homeware is something which I could search for all day, every day. I often wish that I chose to study interior design as it just seems so fun. With spring arriving (I think Aberdeen forgot this year though), so many stores are launching lovely clean, fresh looking items which in my eyes is the ultimate definition of spring. Copper and white just will not leave my heart however, I feel it fits this season perfectly along with some green plants. Ah if only I had an unlimited bank account... actually I would definitely become a homeware hoarder.

Fresh Spring Makeup

To me, the phrase 'spring time makeup' just screams neutral eyes, lots of highlight (which you sadly cannot see in the photos) and bright lips. Usually I would go for one of my Mac Lipsticks such as Please me or Pink Plaid however, after recently rediscovering my Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish lipstick in shade 12 I just had to try it out again. I do not even know if you can get this anymore as it is not on the Boots or Superdrug website but, it is the perfect orangy-red which I am sure many other brands would stock. Anyway here is my go to spring makeup this year:

Bronzer: Seventeen Define and Conquer Contour Kit

Spring Wardrobe Staples

Can you believe that it is the end of March already? This year is flying past so fast that I can barely keep up. However this means that its finally time to put away the jumpers and pull forward pretty spring time items. Although I am excited about this, my wardrobe needs some serious revamping! Here are some staples that I think are vital to add to my spring time wardrobe, all from New Look:

Cold Shouldered Tops

1234

I have been a fan of tops that expose your shoulders for a long time now as you could be completely dressed down, yet cut out shoulders add a little bit of jazz. My ultimate favourite out of these 4 is the pink one as the relaxed fit looks extremely comfortable yet feminine.

Culottes
1234

I have had a pair of culottes in my wardrobe for months now however have yet to work up the courage to wear them. My 5'3 height just does not seem to match with the cropped trend yet I am not willing to give up. They look amazing when worn casually with a tee and trainers/sandals or on a night out with a crop top and barely there heels.

Denim

1234

Okay denim is a staple all year round however I love lighter washes in the spring. Ripped boyfriend and mom jeans are popping up every where at the moment which makes me want a pair so badly! Furthermore, denim jackets seem to be popular year after year and I am shocked to admit that one has never occupied my wardrobe. That definitely has to change.

Pinafores
1234

Again the pinafore trend is another one that does not agree with my body type however who cares right? I love pinafore dresses or playsuits as they are just so cute when layered with a high neck jumper or t shirt underneath. There is so much variety out there now too which makes it impossible to choose just one!

Stripes

1234

I have actually only owned about like 3 striped items in the past 10 years, so shocking considering they are staples in most peoples wardrobes. Can you really beat a plain striped tee? Again these are items that can just be chucked on with jeans and trainers and you are set to go. The best type of outfits for a lazy girl like me.

W7 Twist and Shape Eyebrow Pencil

I am always on the hunt for new eyebrow products and when I saw the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer, I knew that I wanted it and had to have it. However currently being on a student budget with no job, it became apparent to me that wasting £16 on an eyebrow pencil when I already have so many would be stupid. So instead, I went onto trusty eBay and found this W7 Twist and Shape Brow pencil for £2.99 which I thought would be a perfect dupe due to the angled end just like the Anastasia one. Here are my thoughts:

So I have heard of the W7 brand before however have never tried any of their products. All I know is that it is a budget brand who sells eye shadow palettes that are good dupes for the Urban Decay ones. I found this pencil to be very waxy however usually I apply powder to my brows so that may be why. The angled tip did make it simple to apply and once combed through with a brush it blended nicely. It also stays put and looks fine all day.

However I got it in the shade Blonde and as you can see it is more like a brunette shade. This did not affect me as I do have brown eyebrows however if you have really light ones then this definitely would not work for you. I am also a bit scared that the angle of the pencil may become a bit distorted after a few uses so this will definitely have to be watched.

To conclude, this is a good eyebrow pencil for £2.99 but its just a bit bleugh as you can tell from the little I can write about it. It is definitely worth a try if you are considering buying the Anastasia one and do not want to fork out the money straight away. I am definitely going to stick for my powder for now however will consider the Anastasia one in the future.
